Kalymnos was more incredible than we imagined. From the gorgeous sunsets over the neighboring island of Telendos, to the other-worldly stalactites and tufas adorning caves and soaring limestone walls, this magical island was nothing short of amazing. Although our travel from Oregon was long and exhausting it all went smoothly and we arrived without incident at our cozy studio in Massouri. Klimis Studios is owned by a wonderful couple who go above and beyond to make sure their guests are taken care of and have every necessary resource readily available. We strongly recommend contacting them if you're staying on Kalymnos.
We stuck to a regime of visiting new crags each day with a focus on exploring and sampling as many routes as we could- forgoing the tempting idea of projecting single routes for multiple days. In total, we visited 10 sectors and climbed on multiple walls within certain sectors on some of the days. The climbing was varied and often each crag featured routes of multiple grades. Most of the caves or overhanging walls with harder routes were surrounded by vertical and slabby rock on the outside that offered more moderate climbs. It’s so hard to pick out favorites because many crags were world-class, but our absolute favorite sectors were Ghost Kitchen, Pescatore, Odyssey and Sikati Cave.
